A new collection & my dog's surgery

Tuesday, September 08, 2009

I have added 3 "chic" kits to my shop at PDP. Check out my scrapbook blog for photos.

And on a more personal note, my sweet little pup is going in for knee surgery today.

Yes. You heard me right. Knee surgery.

He has grade 4 patella luxation. He is a rescue, and is pretty nervous/sensitive, so please think good thoughts for him today. This poor little guy has been through so much with his leg. It was broken when I adopted him {he was hit by a car and his old owners dropped him off at the pound because they didn't want to deal with it}, and he broke it again since {He was in the hall and just started yelping, so we believe he twisted it somehow}.

I was told I cannot pick him up until tomorrow, but plan to call the vet every hour or so to check on him. And I am hoping that they might let me come visit when he wakes up.

If you believe in the power of prayer, please say a little prayer for him today. I know he is going to be very scared, and I hope that he does ok when he wakes up. I know that I will be a mess all day, and don't know how I will sleep knowing he is in a cage.

The worst part about this whole ordeal is that he will need to be on cage rest for two months. That means no walking for 2 months. I can carry him outside to do his "business" and he can walk a little bit to do that, but that's it.

And then there is the fact that we have to go back to the vet for weekly bandage changes. For two months. He really doesn't like going to the vet.

I have a feeling this isn't going to be very fun for anyone.

I'll keep you all posted on how things are going.

  1. My dog had that same surgery when she was 8 months old. They also told me no walking for 8 weeks. There is no way that is possible. When I took her to the vet for her 1 week check up, I told the vet that she was already walking around and there was no way I could stop her. He told me that was fine as long as she wasn't running and playing really hard. It will be a whole lot easier than you think. Trust me. I've been there. They heal so quickly.

  2. He's adorable!! Is he a min-pin, or a mix? I'll be thinking and praying for you. I can't imagine having to keep my dog on cage rest, poor little thing. I'm sure everything will turn out fine :)

  11. Oh my goodness what a cutie! I am so glad to hear he's doing better. I've rescued dozens of dogs myself over the years, and one I recall vividly looked just like your cute little guy (min-pin, perhaps).

Thank you for adopting a rescue and having the patience to work through any "issues" he may, or may not, have from his past experiences.

    :)
