Some {BIG} news.
Friday, January 22, 2010If you have been following my blog over the past few months, you may remember that I took a trip to Chicago in November.
Well, in early February, I am going back to Chicago! Only this time, I booked a one way ticket there, and will be subleasing an apartment for at least one month. I cannot wait to document this trip on my project 365 blog!
It should be quite an adventure coming from LA. I am obviously not used to that kind of cold.
How many of you live where it snows? Any advice for me?

I *LOVE* Chicago -- and live about 3 hours away on the other side of Lake Michigan. Chicago gets some snow -- but not too much. It's really the bone-chilling temps & wind that you have to be prepared for.
ReplyDeleteSnow/cold-novice advice:
~ Avoid driving if you aren't used to it.
~ Wear warm weather gear (heavy coat, hat, mittens, boots) no matter how fashion un-worthy it may be!
Hope you enjoy your time there -- it's a great city!
Welcome to the Midwest! Chicago is an awesome town ... be careful, you might just fall in love and never want to leave. Depending on when you're coming you may not need to worry much about snow, although this part of the Midwest (I'm in Wisconsin, about 90 minutes away from Chi-town) we always seem to get a spring snowstorm that creates a big mess. Julie has it right though ... hats, gloves and boots. Everyone in Chicago carries their shoes and wears "real" footwear outside, even in summer. You'll have an awesome time!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! You are jumping into the snow experience. Dress warm. Wear a hat, scarf, boots, drinks lots of hot coffee or tea. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure! I can't wait to follow along.

I was wondering if this was going to be a long term thing, interesting to know that your doing a 1 month thing first. Testing it out for a possible more permanent thing? I am so very excited for you and the new adventure your taking. I will be praying that God blesses your time in Chicago and that it truly will be one of the best times you've ever had. God's blessings to you!
ReplyDeleteDaily laying it at the Master's feet!

I live in Vermont where it snows a lot! : ) Make sure you have your boots, hat, gloves, and scarf. I love Chicago and can't wait to visit again.
ReplyDeletea good, warm pair of boots will be your best friend
ReplyDeleteI'm in TX, so no weather advice here! :) Just wanted to say congrats on your newest adventure! What made you decide to want to live in Chicago for a bit? Just curious! I was never that adventurous but always admired those who just picked up and moved somewhere just like that!
ReplyDeleteIt gets cold here but I have always come back. I grew up here went to college just about 2 hours away in South Bend, Indiana. After college I went to LA but I returned home one yr later.
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it here.
I live about two hours from Chicago,Indiana side. But we are in Chicago pretty often.Buy a warm coat, north face is the best.Cause,it's seriously cold.Bone chilling cold.:)But,though we are partial,it's a GREAT city! :)Oh,and uggs, must have. And as the signs say lining the streets "Watch for falling ice".You will love it.I guarantee that!
ReplyDeleteYep. Warm boots are a must! :) Think of all the inside designing time you will have. :)
ReplyDeleteChicago is great! My advise....good (stylish..hard to find) shoes and a warm winter coat.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure!!! Looking forward to reading about your adventure. (My parents live 2 1/2 hrs away from "the windy city". )
Wow what an adventure! Well I live in Australia so there is .. ahem.. no snow here as you imagine! We are in Summer now and it is very hot. Enjoy! xx
ReplyDeleteChicago is my favorite. You will love it. Dress warm but fashionable!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I live in the suburbs and invested in a serious down coat this year which I'm very happy about. You'll definately need a good coat, warm boots, and patience if it snows. You are coming at a cold time but the city is always exciting even in the midst of a snow storm. Have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteGet a puffer coat and/or nice long peacoat type jacket (I love J.Crew's).
ReplyDeleteHow fun, but I'd wait and go when winter is over!! Never mind, think of the cute sweaters and boots you can buy!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!!!! How exciting for you!!!!!!!! Wow!! That is awesome!!!!
ReplyDelete...lived in PA most of my life - not as severe as Chicago, so all the advice so far is great - a LONG puffer jacket with HOOD is probably a must too. My advice though is not about THINGS...it's about MOOD. I notice people are very different in cold weather. Instead of a nice warm smile when you pass them on the street, they are usually looking down trying to just get to their destination. Bring that LA attitude and spread it! Can't wait to follow along.
ReplyDeleteI am jealous!! Take me with you!!!
ReplyDeleteWow!!! That's really exciting!! :)
ReplyDeleteI live right in the heart of Chicago...I'd love to meet for a cup of coffee.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I love Chicago. I just wrote a post a few days ago about my must-have items for winter. You might appreciate it more now! http://minnesotahousewife.blogspot.com/2010/01/winter-loves.html good luck!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! What an adventure!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your adventure! I am so excited for you. And well, make sure you have a warm coat, scarf and gloves and just get ready to freeze. Chicago winters are worse than winters in Utah as the humidity just makes the cold bone chilling. But it will still be so fun for you! I miss the windy city.
ReplyDeleteMy most favorite city in all of the USA! Hope that you are enjoying yourself.
