Blogger Tip. Posting larger photos to Blogger.

Monday, December 28, 2009

I am often asked how I post such large photos in blogger, so the time has come for me to share my secret with everyone ;)

Fortunately, it really isn't a secret, and it's actually quite easy.

1. Choose a photo {or photos} that you would like to include within your blog post.

2. Resize the photo. It helps to know the width of your posting area for this step. I resize my photos {in Photoshop} to 550 px wide. I think this is big enough without being completely overwhelming. If you do not have a program to resize your photos, you can do it online, here.

If you do not want to resize the photo first, follow the next steps, and once you add the photo to the post, drag in one of the photo corners to make the image smaller.

3. Upload your photo{s} to a hosting site. I upload my photos to Flikr and Photobucket. I recommend photobucket. I think it's a bit easier to use.

4. You will see a box below your photos with 4 codes. You want to copy and paste the line next to "HTML Code."

5. For anyone that does not understand HTML, I recommend pasting the code in "compose" mode {that is one of the two tabs to the top right of a blog post}.

< src="">

I added a space before img to keep the code from working so you could see what it looks like.

6. To see the image, either hit preview or hit edit html and then hit compose again. You should see your larger image in your blog post!

I am definitely not a teacher, so let me know if you have any questions! I hope this helps.

  1. You ARE a teacher! I just spent the entire morning trying to edit the html to retrieve my lost 3 columns when I thought I'd add a new new year's background. I gave up when nothing seemed to work then tried another template. This editing stuff is not for the impatient or weak of spirit I am convinced. I don't know how you do it but I am looking forward to my new and wonderful blog design you are creating. Did you get my files? Am I on the right track now?? :)

  2. Thanks for a different way to edit the size. I change the size of mine once I upload them to blogger. I delete the original size from the HTML code and then change S400 to S640. I learned that from a tutorial on I heart faces. :)

  3. Awesome! Thanks! I was just wondering this!

  4. Great tips. People always wonder how to center them too and you can do that by adding the following code before the html for the photo (without the space before the word center):
    < center>
And the this one to "close" the code (so everything following is not centered and you don't get errors):
    < /center>

  5. I was actually going to do a post on centering, strike through, etc... :)

  6. Just wanted to add that this is easier in FireFox (instead of Internet Explorer) - at least for me.

  7. Great post. I've been using Flickr for the past month. I'm on Wordpress now, but really it's the same thing with pictures. The bigger, the better.

  8. Celeste, EVERYTHING is better in Firefox. IE is horrible :)
